Planning

Prepare the property for tile deliveries.

A delivery plan should describe where materials go and who receives them. Agree on that plan before trucks, pallets and lifting equipment arrive at an occupied property.

Walk the proposed route

Review the route from the street to the unloading and storage areas with the contractor and supplier. Identify narrow gates, overhead obstructions, soft ground and surfaces needing protection. Let the delivery team determine suitable equipment and access. Record areas that must stay clear, including entrances and spaces used by neighbors, visitors or routine service vehicles.

Assign receipt and unloading

Name the person who will be present to check the shipment and coordinate unloading. Confirm whose arrangement includes equipment, operators and any handling after the truck leaves. Send the final delivery location and contact details to the supplier. A purchase marked “delivered” should not be treated as an explanation of all the work required on site.

Prepare a protected storage area

Ask the contractor to choose storage that follows the product instructions and limits repeated handling. Keep product identification with the materials, and separate special shapes from general site clutter. Discuss storage needs for membranes and other accessories independently of the tiles. Record who may move the stock so unrelated trades do not rearrange it for convenience.

Check and record discrepancies

Compare the shipment with the order while labels and packaging are identifiable. Have the receiving person photograph visible damage and record shortages or incorrect items through the supplier’s stated process. Keep disputed stock identifiable until instructions are received. Do not install a questionable product merely because the crew has arrived and the rest of the shipment looks correct.

Plan removal as well as arrival

Confirm where packaging, pallets and discarded material will go and who arranges their collection. Keep the agreed access route usable as the project progresses. Before storage areas return to normal use, check for leftover fragments and document any surface concerns. Reserve a labeled location for the spare tile stock that will remain after construction.
