Check completion against the accepted scope
Bring the accepted proposal, approved changes and marked roof plan to the walkthrough. Review each work area with the supervisor using safe ground-level observation and contractor-supplied photographs. Include associated work such as gutters, site protection and cleanup where contracted. Record explanations of differences so the final roof description reflects what was actually built.
Confirm required inspections and records
Ask the responsible project contact which final inspections or completion checks apply and whether each has been completed. Obtain the relevant results and identify any corrections still awaiting review. Keep these alongside agreed photographs of concealed work, labeled by roof area and stage. An owner walkthrough does not replace a required inspection or specialist assessment.
Reconcile deliveries and unused materials
Review the final material schedule against delivery tickets, approved substitutions and the stock remaining on site. Distinguish usable owner spares, material awaiting a supplier return and waste or packaging for collection. Confirm quantities, product identities, storage locations and responsibility for any return arrangements. Resolve an unexplained shortage or surplus before the project paperwork is put away.
Complete the warranty and records handover
Receive the installed product schedule, supplier contacts, maintenance instructions, applicable warranties and registration acknowledgments. Include design and inspection records relevant to the completed work. Ask whom to contact for ongoing service, and make a simple index so a future owner or roofer can locate the information. Keep a backup outside a single email thread.
Assign and close the remaining-work list
Give every unfinished item a location, description, responsible contact and target completion date. Include outstanding documents and material collections as well as construction corrections. Distinguish questions needing explanation from agreed work still to be done. Update the shared list when each item is resolved, add supporting records and record the completed project’s final handover date.
