Coordinate first-course support
The first tile course must meet the selected system’s support and alignment detail. An eave closure can both close the profile opening and provide the required rise. Other products use different pieces; Ludowici’s Flat Slab prototype includes under-eave tile and a cant strip. Ask for a section through your actual product instead of choosing the edge detail by color alone.
Keep the concealed route open
Raised fascia can create a pocket behind the roof edge unless the assembly provides positive drainage. TRIA’s anti-ponding brief addresses this condition. During design review, trace water on top of the tiles and water reaching the underlayment separately. Ask where each exits, and have changes to fascia height reviewed before edge metal or tiles are installed.
Use closures that suit the system
A bird stop is not a universal strip that can be fitted to any profile. Match the tile shape, support height and ventilation strategy. Where the selected closure has intentional drainage or ventilation openings, do not treat those openings as defects to be filled. Include any required pest or exposure protection in the chosen detail rather than improvising after installation.
Show the gutter and its outlet
Add the gutter position to the eave drawing before the fascia contractor and roofer finish. Ask how tile overhang, drip edge and expected runoff relate to its opening. The drainage plan continues through downspouts to an appropriate discharge location away from the building. At handover, request confirmation of the completed route, particularly where a valley concentrates water at one corner.
