Installation

Inspect the work before the next layer hides it.

A final roof inspection cannot reveal every concealed connection. Agree on a small set of hold points that match the actual construction sequence, with clear responsibility for documenting and resolving concerns.

Accept materials before installation

Inspect delivered tile and accessories before installing questionable stock. TRIA discusses handling damage and the contractor’s responsibility to address compromised tiles. Ask who records delivery concerns and when the supplier must be contacted. Keep appearance review separate from technical acceptance: a roof can meet a color preference while still containing pieces or connections that need correction.

Check preparation and transitions

Schedule review after required deck repairs and again when critical flashing is visible. Product-specific underlayment instructions may require a clean, dry, sound surface and particular adhesion conditions. Ask for photographs of valleys, roof-wall junctions and penetrations before tiles conceal them. A passed checkpoint should identify the area inspected and unresolved items, rather than simply noting that work is underway.

Control work in progress

Plan cleanup during installation, not only at completion. TRIA warns that cutting dust left on tile can become a lasting appearance problem. Also agree on a construction-weather plan covering loose materials and partially completed areas. Its 2017 banding brief reported no formal wind testing of banded stacks, so straps alone should not be represented as a storm-safety guarantee.

Close out exceptions deliberately

Maintain a short list of damage, substitutions and unfinished transitions, with the responsible person and the next inspection stage. Our recommendation is to reconcile that list before final acceptance, then give the owner photographs organized by roof area. Include any component-specific instructions and the location of spare tile. Record what was inspected and any inaccessible areas so the handover accurately describes the completed review.
