Prepare a penetration schedule
List each pipe, vent, skylight and equipment support on a roof plan. For each, ask who supplies the flashing, who installs it and who checks the finished connection. This is a coordination recommendation, not a substitute for the product instructions. New penetrations and reused openings deserve review while the roof is accessible, including any damaged supporting material.
Protect both water-control levels
TRIA’s penetration brief explains why changes through tile need appropriate detailing at the tile surface and the deck or underlayment level. Do not assume that a neat-looking cover plate proves the concealed connection is complete. Ask the installer to identify both parts of the chosen detail and how their laps maintain the existing drainage route.
Match mounts to the actual roof
The structural mount, waterproofing and tile fit are separate checks. IronRidge’s tile-replacement flashing instructions call for matching the tile profile and fitting adjacent tiles properly; its component addendum addresses mounting and underlayment waterproofing. Ask which exact combination is proposed. A component that fits a rail or resembles the tile does not, by itself, establish a complete approved assembly.
Define the handoff and future access
Arrange a roof check before panels or other equipment make inspection difficult. Request photographs, component identification and a record of any damaged tiles replaced during the work. Our recommendation is to agree how later roof repairs will involve equipment removal, who can perform that removal and where spare matching tiles will be kept. These arrangements make future maintenance easier to plan.
