Repair

Check the original leak after the repair.

A leak repair needs a clear follow-up plan, especially when water entered only under unusual conditions. Compare what changed at the roof with the original symptoms, and define what happens if those symptoms return.

Preserve the diagnostic baseline

Keep the original stain photographs, affected room location and event notes. Record the weather pattern associated with leakage and the date of the repair. Ask the contractor to explain which observed defect was addressed and whether other possible sources remain under consideration. This keeps the follow-up tied to a specific diagnosis.

Connect evidence to the repair

Request available photographs showing the diagnosed detail before and during the work. Ask how the completed repair addresses the suspected water path, including any affected layers below the tile. A photograph of replaced tiles alone may not answer that question. Record any area that could not be examined.

Watch for comparable conditions

Agree on the next useful observation or any professional testing recommended by the investigator. A dry final visit does not reproduce every combination of wind, rain or melting snow. Use safe interior or ground-level observations and report whether the original location remains unchanged when relevant weather returns.

Report recurrence precisely

If dampness returns, note its location, timing and extent before contacting the contractor. Distinguish a new spot from the original area and include any intervening roof or equipment work. Ask whether the evidence indicates an incomplete repair, another entry point or a different moisture source. Avoid drawing that conclusion from stain color alone.

Define the next investigation

Agree who will review recurring symptoms and when further assessment is warranted. Repeated surface patching without an explained diagnosis should prompt a discussion of selective opening, specialist investigation or other appropriate methods. Record the outstanding questions and the evidence needed to answer them so each visit advances the investigation rather than restarting it.
